Welcome! I am a joint doctoral candidate in the Department of Sociology and the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago. My research interests lie primarily in organizational theory and political sociology. Drawing on qualitative, statistical, and computational methods, my dissertation explores the interface between the corporate sector and civil society in contemporary China. In recent projects, I study procurement strategies of the U.S. government, discursive transformation of China’s state media, and the roles of physical workspace in facilitating organizational-level changes.

My research has been supported by the Rustandy Center for Social Sector Innovation and the Center for East Asian Studies at the University of Chicago, among others. I hold an M.A. in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago and a B.A. in Sociology from East China Normal University, China. Please feel free to contact me at yzhuang[at]uchicago[dot]edu or yzhuang[at]chicagobooth[dot]edu.
